Knockouts Knotables

Knockouts-Cole opened up their season this past weekend at the Gate City Showcase in Greensboro, NC. As the first competitive tournament for this group of talented players, these Knockouts battled throughout the weekend. Coaches from local schools were also giving on-field commentary, advice and encouragement throughout the day.

Saturday’s opening game was against a tough Extreme Performance-Furr (EP) team. This was a well-played defensive game featuring strong pitching from both teams. EP took a 4-0 lead into the bottom of the 6th but the Knockouts fell short 4-2 after their rally ended with bases loaded to end the game.

Game 2 was against a VA Glory team. The Knockouts allowed 1 run to score in the top of the first and then shut their opponents down with strong pitching and defensive effort. The girls were doing a good job at getting runners on board each inning, and came out winning 3-1.

Game 3 featured a more offensive game against Cage 2 Stage Blue team. Knockouts found themselves down 5-1 in the bottom of the 3rd. The girls battled back with some key hits and won the game 7-5.

Sunday’s bracket began with a game against NC Rockers 2024/2025 team. The Knockouts came out with some intensity and scored 3 runs in the bottom of the 1st inning. After one bad inning, the game was tied heading into the bottom of the 5th.  The team pushed through the go ahead run and held off to advance with final score of     4-3.

Bracket Game 2 was against the second NC Rocker team. The game featured some strong defensive plays by both teams. Rockers led 3-0 heading into bottom of the 4th inning when the Knockouts broke through with 2 runs. Unfortunately, the Knockouts had the tying run at the plate in the bottom of the 6th but could not extend their day coming up short and ending their day losing 4-2.

Overall, a good weekend certainly with some highlights, and certainly with opportunities to work on some in game fundamentals to make us a stronger group as this season progresses. Looking forward to how this Knockouts group will look the rest of this summer!!
